House Fire

Many thanks to the mutual aid companies that assisted Roxana Volunteer Fire Company with house fire today in Bayard. Roxana, Bethany Beach and Millville were Dispatched at 1 pm. Great stop by first crews on scene. The damage was mostly contained to the crawl space. Safety Officer Guy Hudson was in the area went on scene took command and reported smoke from under the residence. Asst. Chief Glenn Johnson Sr. Arrived on engine-tanker 90-4 and was appointed operations. 1st Crew from engine 84 advanced under the house could only get part of the way under the house due to heat and smoke conditions. Operations Ordered another crew to breach the first floor to gain access to fire below. This proved effective and took pressure off the crew below and allowed a safer means to extinguish the fire. Asst. Chief Mike Magee was on primary search with no occupants in the house. Incident went under control in about 36 minutes. Units remained working on scene and cleared approx. 2:40 pm.
