Saturday, 23:20 hrs. Roxana Volunteer Fire Company (Station 90), Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company (Station 70), Ocean City, MD Fire Company, Delaware State Police Helicopter (Trooper 2), DNREC AND COAST GUARD-OCEAN CITY were alerted to a water rescue in Big Assawoman bay in the area between Roosevelt Avenue in the Cape Windsor neighborhood and Bayberry Lane in the Keenwick neighborhood.
Upon arrival, neighbors reported that they had heard a man yelling “help” and “sos” for 1 – 2 hours before 9-1-1 was called and the fire departments were alerted.
Roxana launched its boat and began a search. After several minutes of searching Roxana personnel discovered a single male and a capsized boat in the water. The male victim was hauled in to Roxana’s boat and transported to shore where he was evaluated by Roxana EMS which discovered no injuries. He was then released to DNREC police for further evaluation..
It was determined that the male victim was on his way from Ocean City to Treasure Beach. He apparently became lost and entered in to a dead-end channel where his boat capsized.
Photos of capsized and uprighted boat were obtained from TowboatUS-Ocean City website
